Saint Vincent De Paul Parish is hosting “Walking with the Saints: A Reliquary Experience of Saints throughout History” on Saturday, November 7, and Sunday, November 8, after all the Masses (Saturday, 5 p.m.; Sunday, 7:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.). The exhibit will also be open for interested Catholic schools, Monday, November 9, and Tuesday, November 10.

The exhibit will feature 45 first-class relics of saints throughout five periods of Church history: the Age of the Apostles and the Church Fathers, the Middle Ages, the Reformation and Counter Reformation, the Age of Enlightenment and French Revolution, and the Modern Age. The Very Rev. Andrew Kemberling, V.F., has collected these relics for St. Vincent de Paul Parish since he came to the parish in June 2014.

This relic collection includes a number of popular saints such as St. Therese of Lisieux, St. Teresa of Avila, St. Ignatius Loyola, and our very own patron saint, St. Vincent de Paul. The faithful will also learn about first- and second-century martyrs such as St. Modestus, St. Polycarp, St. Sebastian and St. Erasma. Twentieth-century saints are represented by St. Pius X, St. Gemma Galgani, and a Colorado favorite, St. Frances Cabrini.

It is located at the halfway point between Galveston and Houston.  A Relic of the Wood of the True Cross upon which Christ died was received from Rome and enshrined in the church.  Bishop Byrne secured a special blessing from the Holy See and obtained for the Shrine a spiritual affiliation with the ancient Roman Basilica of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem, where Relics of Christ’s Passion, including the Wood of the True Cross, have been venerated by countless pilgrims from the fourth century to today.

The Outdoor Pieta Chapel was built in 1968 to accommodate the increasing number of pilgrims, especially from the Catholic ethnic communities of Toledo, Cleveland, Columbus, Youngstown, Detroit, Pittsburgh and Windsor, Ontario.  Outdoor Masses are held in the beautiful Outdoor Pieta Chapel on Saurdays & Sundays from May through September.

The Sorrowful Mother Shrine Chapel is the heart of the Shrine today. It features paintings of the Seven Sorrows of Mary and a newly refurbished statue of the Sorrowful Mother holding the Body of her Son. The stained glass windows portray Mary's role in the life of the Church as expressed in the Litany of the Blessed Virgin and Sorrowful Mother: Mary, cause of our joy; Mary, help of Christians; Mary, most powerful; Mary, comforter of the afflicted. Other windows depict scenes of Christ's life.
Mass is celebrated in the chapel daily throughout the year.

During the Pilgrim Season, beginning on Divine Mercy Sunday through the last Sunday of October, at 2:30 PM each Sunday we have Rosary, Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, Blessing of Religious Articles and Blessing with the Relic of the True Cross and its veneration by those present individually.
The Shrine cafeteria is available any day of the week for groups of 15 or more. For reservations call 419-483-3435, ext. 101.
At the present time, the Sorrowful Mother Shrine has no overnight accommodations for overnight retreats. We are able to give a Day of Reflection, a Day of Recollection.

The original model of the pilgrimage of the icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa is the Great Novena, which is a 9-year period of preparation for the Millennium of the Baptism Polish (1957-1966), prepared by the Primate Stefan Cardinal Wyszynski (1901-1981).

Great Novena was held at the times of Stalin's terror, when the first fruits of the Nation detachment from the Church began to be visible. Great Novena reverse of this trend.

National Shrine of The Divine Mercy

The National Shrine of The Divine Mercy is a ministry of the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the authentic promoters of the message of The Divine Mercy. Located in the heart of the Berkshire Hills in western Massachusetts, the Shrine sits on 350 acres, known as Eden Hill.

This Shrine offers many opportunities for inspiration and devotion. Pilgrims find refreshment of soul at Mass, confession, the 3 o'clock Chaplet of The Divine Mercy, and personal adoration of the Eucharist. We invite you to stroll throughout our beautiful grounds. Visit the many statues and candle shrines like the Lourdes Candle Grotto and Holy Family Shrine. The groves of St. Therese and St. Francis' each offer an oasis for silent prayer and contemplation. Several sites on Eden Hill, including the Mother of Mercy Outdoor Shrine and the Shrine of the Holy Innocents, devoted to deceased children, offer unique memorial and devotional opportunities. The Shrine is also the geographic and spiritual home of the Association of Marian Helpers and is open to visitors on weekdays.

In 2000, St. Maria Faustina Kowalska, the secretary of Divine Mercy, was canonized on Divine Mercy Sunday and the Feast of Divine Mercy officially proclaimed by Pope John Paul II at St. Peter's in Rome. The Shrine is the site for the largest celebration in the Northeast of the Feast of The Divine Mercy, which is held each year on the Sunday after Easter. The event traditionally is televised on Eternal World Television Network (EWTN).

Thousand of pilgrims visit the National Shrine each year either on personal retreat or to join in the celebration of holy, ethnic or specialized days and is open to the public, daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, the Divine Mercy Bookstore and Gift Shop offers an extensive selection of Catholic products to encourage you on your walk of faith. The Shrine and the Gift Shop are handicap accessible.

Whether you encounter the message of The Divine Mercy on this web site or by visiting the National Shrine in person, our prayer is that you personally encounter God's great love and mercy. As Pope John Paul II said, "There is nothing the world needs more than Divine Mercy." (Shrine of The Divine Mercy, Lagiewniki, Poland, June 7, 1997)
