Man of the Shroud Exhibit
The Shroud of Turin has long been venerated by the faithful & is believed by many to be the burial cloth of Jesus of Nazareth. The Shroud is one of the most scientifically studied religious icons in history. As science has progressed, so has the speculation on how the image of the crucified man of the Shroud was made.
The exhibit presents the results of a comprehensive scientific, historical & forensic study with numerous photos & illustrations. The exhibit is the work of the Center for the Study of the Passion of Christ & the Holy Shroud & Monsignor Giulio Ricci & other scientists, who spent more than 25 years researching the Holy Shroud.
The centerpiece of the exhibit is a full-length replica of the Shroud developed from a photographic image of the Shroud made by the Eastman Kodak Co. The replica shows the front & back of the shroud. In addition, the mobile exhibit contains a large crucified corpus showing the wounds of Christ corresponding to the passion narrative in the Gospel accounts & the wounds shown on the Shroud. The exhibit contains 92 panels detailing the history & science of the Shroud.The Conventual Franciscan Friars of Marytown—the National Shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe make this important mobile exhibit & evangelization tool available on loan.

Biography of Saint Padre Pio
Padre Pio was born on May 25, 1887 in Pietrelcina,
southern Italy. He was tutored privately until his entry to
novitiate of Capuchin Friars at age of 15. Of feeble health but
strong will, with help of grace, he completed required studies
& was ordained a priest in 1910.
On Sept 20, 1918 the 5 wounds of our Lord’s passion appeared
on his body, making him first stigmatized priest in history of Catholic Church. Countless persons were attracted to his
confessional & many more received his saintly counsel & spiritual
guidance through correspondence.His whole life was marked by long hours of prayer & continual austerity. His letters to his spiritual directors reveal ineffable suffering, physical & spiritual, which accompanied him all through his life. They also reveal his deep union with God, his burning love for Blessed Eucharist & Our Blessed Lady.
On Jan 9, 1940, Padre Pio announced his grandiose plans to develop a Home for Relief of Suffering (Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza). The Casa opened its doors on May 5, 1956 as a 300 bed facility, built on small, sincere & spontaneous donations & prayers of his followers.
He also developed an international network of prayer groups for support of Casa & its ministry that continues to live on & grow today.
Padre Pio considered Casa Sollievo Della Sofferenza (Casa) his “Work”, inspired & blessed by God, to be a haven of relief from suffering for all of God’s children in pain in body or soul. It is a model community of Catholic Christian health delivery, & has grown into a regional referral center of international renown.
Today, with over 1,000 beds & services comparable to most academic research centers of excellence, Casa is thriving by God’s graces in one of most remote, desolate & poorest areas of Italy…atop Mount Gargano, 4 hours from Rome.
Worn out by over half a century of intense suffering & constant apostolic activity in San Giovanni Rotondo, Padre Pio was called to his heavenly reward on Sept 23, 1968. After a public funeral, which attracted over 100,000 mourners, his body was entombed in crypt of Our Lady of Grace Church. Increasing numbers flock to his tomb from all parts of world & many testify to spiritual & temporal graces received.
On 16th of Feb 1973, Archbishop of Manfredonia, Msgr. Valentino Vailati, consigned documentation to Sacred Congregation of Causes of Saints so as to obtain “nihil obstat” for beginning of process of his Beatification.
On Dec 18, 1997, by reading of decree on herocity of virtues, Holy Father John Paul II declared Padre Pio “Venerable.”, & on June 16, 2002, over 500,000 Padre Pio devotees gathered in Rome to witness Pope John Paul II proclaim Padre Pio, “Saint Pio of Pietrelcina”.

Why is St. Francis Xavier's arm flying across Canada? - RELIC TOUR 2018
Why is St. Francis Xavier's arm flying across Canada?
https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/why-is-st-francis-xaviers-arm-flying-across-canada-73850
Ottawa, Canada, Dec 5, 2017
While he was alive, St. Francis Xavier never got to ride in an airplane. They wouldn't be invented for 400 more years after his death.
But now, his severed arm will get to take a trip across Canada in its very own seat.
The relic of the Jesuit missionary, ordinarily kept in the Church of the Gesù in Rome, will be making a cross-country trip through Canada this winter, as part of an initiative from the university group Catholic Christian Outreach.
The arm of St. Francis Xavier, on display for veneration in Rome.
Angèle Regnier, co-founder of Catholic Christian Outreach, told CBC radio that travelling with the saint’s arm will be "like doing a road trip with a friend."
"I mean, I know it's bones, but connected to that is a living friendship with St. Francis Xavier," she said.
In the Catholic Church, relics are physical objects that have a direct association with the saints or with Jesus.
The arm of St. Francis Xavier is considered a first class relic, which is the body or fragments of the body of a saint. The practice of venerating relics has been a scripture-based tradition in the Church for centuries.
Regnier will be accompanying the saint’s arm on its trip from Rome to Canada, where the relic will make a month-long tour through much of the country.
The fragility of the relic, which is encased in a gold & glass reliquary & has its own padded duffle bag, necessitated that it travel in its own seat on Air Canada.
"We can't put it underneath. We can't even put it in the overhead bins. Like, he has to have his own seat," she told CBC radio.
"You're trying to explain this to Air Canada. We need to book a seat. He is a person in a way, but it's not a person, it's an arm."
The saint’s arm is a significant relic. With that arm, it is estimated that St. Francis Xavier baptized hundreds of thousands of people during his time as a missionary in Asia. The relic is also considered to be partially incorrupt, which means that it hasn't decayed in an ordinary way.
Regnier said that the group wanted to bring the saint’s relic to Canada because he is one of their patron saints. While a university student, Francis Xavier was known for being athletic & the “cool guy,” Regnier said.
But it was also during time that he underwent a conversion, & his roommate, St. Ignatius of Loyola, became his spiritual mentor.
St. Francis Xavier would become one of the founding members of the Jesuit order, along with St. Ignatius of Loyola & Blessed Peter Faber.
"So for us, as a university student movement, we want university students to come alive in their faith, so we find a lot in common with St. Francis Xavier's history," Regnier said.
The saint’s arm will be traveling throughout Canada from Jan. 3 - Feb. 2, during which time the faithful are invited to venerate the relic.
"It's quite a production," Regnier said. "We want to touch most of Canada with it."
The schedule for the relic tour is as follows:
* Jan. 3: Quebec City
* Jan. 5: St John's
* Jan. 7: Halifax
* Jan. 8: Antigonish, N.S.
* Jan. 10: Kingston, Ont.
