Biography of Saint Padre Pio

Padre Pio was born on May 25, 1887 in Pietrelcina, southern Italy. He was tutored privately until his entry to novitiate of Capuchin Friars at age of 15. Of feeble health but strong will, with help of grace, he completed required studies & was ordained a priest in 1910.
On Sept 20, 1918 the 5 wounds of our Lord’s passion appeared on his body, making him first stigmatized priest in history of Catholic Church. Countless persons were attracted to his confessional & many more received his saintly counsel & spiritual guidance through correspondence.

His whole life was marked by long hours of prayer & continual austerity. His letters to his spiritual directors reveal ineffable suffering, physical & spiritual, which accompanied him all through his life. They also reveal his deep union with God, his burning love for Blessed Eucharist & Our Blessed Lady.

On Jan 9, 1940, Padre Pio announced his grandiose plans to develop a Home for Relief of Suffering (Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza). The Casa opened its doors on May 5, 1956 as a 300 bed facility, built on small, sincere & spontaneous donations & prayers of his followers.

He also developed an international network of prayer groups for support of Casa & its ministry that continues to live on & grow today.

Padre Pio considered Casa Sollievo Della Sofferenza (Casa) his “Work”, inspired & blessed by God, to be a haven of relief from suffering for all of God’s children in pain in body or soul. It is a model community of Catholic Christian health delivery, & has grown into a regional referral center of international renown.

Today, with over 1,000 beds & services comparable to most academic research centers of excellence, Casa is thriving by God’s graces in one of most remote, desolate & poorest areas of Italy…atop Mount Gargano, 4 hours from Rome.

Worn out by over half a century of intense suffering & constant apostolic activity in San Giovanni Rotondo, Padre Pio was called to his heavenly reward on Sept 23, 1968. After a public funeral, which attracted over 100,000 mourners, his body was entombed in crypt of Our Lady of Grace Church. Increasing numbers flock to his tomb from all parts of world & many testify to spiritual &  temporal graces received.

On 16th of Feb 1973, Archbishop of Manfredonia, Msgr. Valentino Vailati, consigned documentation to Sacred Congregation of Causes of Saints so as to obtain “nihil obstat” for beginning of process of his Beatification.

On Dec 18, 1997, by reading of decree on herocity of virtues, Holy Father John Paul II declared Padre Pio “Venerable.”, & on June 16, 2002, over 500,000 Padre Pio devotees gathered in Rome to witness Pope John Paul II proclaim Padre Pio, “Saint Pio of Pietrelcina”.

Relics of the Passion in Connecticut April 2016

St. Matthew’s Church,
120 Church Avenue
Bristol, CT

Relics of the Passion will be presented on Apr 24, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. (Eastern Time)
Ph:  860-583-1833

Link this information was found at:

http://archdioceseofhartford.org/event/cathedral-of-saint-joseph-to-host-relics-of-christs-passion/

The Relics of the Passion collection includes:

1) A piece of the True Cross, which was discovered by St. Helena
2) A piece of the Holy Table (Mensae Coenae D.N.J.C.), from the room where the Last Supper took place
3) A piece of the Column of Flagellation
4) A piece of The Crown of Thorns
5) A replica of the Holy Nail, fashioned using filings from the true nails, making it a relic of a lesser class.
6) A relic from the head of St. Longinus, the centurion who pierced the side of Christ
7) A picture of (the effigy of) the Veil of Veronica touched to the original with a Vatican seal attesting to the fact.
8) A piece of the exterior wrapping for the Shroud of Turin (Sindonis D.N.J.C.)

The documents for these relics have been reviewed and authenticated prior to the commencement of the first tour in 2007.  Since then, the Relics of the Passion have been venerated in more than 12 archdioceses and 9 dioceses throughout the world.  While this collection was in the Philippines, more than a million people came to see the rare relics. Tours for these relics are generally limited by the travel availability of the members of the Apostolate and are traditionally presented to the public only on a limited basis during the Lenten season.  However, because of the Holy Father’s declaration of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, the Apostolate for Holy Relics is pleased to be presenting this extraordinary collection with a customized program at area churches as part of a nationwide tour promoting God’s Mercy.

AHR is an organization founded in Los Angeles in 2006. Additional information regarding the Apostolate for Holy Relics can be found at relictour.com or by contacting denise@relictour.org.

St. Kateri Tekakwitha - Relic in Louisiana

The first-class relic of St. Kateri Tekakwitha is on display at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Conference Center located on Highway 1 North (2225 North Bolton Avenue) in Alexandria, Louisiana.

Phone: 318-483-3908
E-Mail: tekconf@gmail.comWebsite: tekconf.org

Tekakwitha was born in 1656 of a Christian Catholic Algonquin mother & a traditional Mohawk Chief in a village called Ossernenon along Mohawk River.

A smallpox epidemic swept through Mohawk village & claimed lives of Tekakwitha's parents & baby brother. She survived disease but it left her eyesight impaired & her body scarred. It also left her physically weak for rest of her life. Orphaned at age 4, she was adopted by her aunt & uncle.

In 1670, St. Peter's Mission was established in Caughnawaga (now Fonda, New York). Four years later, Father James de Lamberville became responsible for new mission. Tekakwitha met Father de Lamberville & expressed her desire for baptism. On April 5, 1676 she was baptized & was given name Catherine 'Kateri in Mohawk.'

In August, 1677, Kateri was encouraged & assisted to leave her Mohawk village & live at Sault St. Louis, St. Francis Xavier Mission near Montreal Canada. After a long & strenuous trip, she arrived at Sault with help of friends. Finally, she'd be able to practice her Christian ways with greater openness & freedom.

On Christmas Day, 1677, Kateri received her 1st Holy Communion. On 3/25/1679, Kateri pronounced her vow of perpetual virginity. Her life was devoted to teaching prayers to children & helping  sick & aged until she became very frail & weak.

On April 17, 1680, she died at age of 24. Her last words were: "Iesos konoronkwa," (Jesus, I love you.) A few minutes after her death, those around her bedside witnessed scars on her face suddenly disappear.
On October 21, 2012, she was Canonized-Saint Kateri by Pope Benedict XVI

Relic of Saint Juan Diego's Tilma - Los Angeles, California

Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels
555 West Temple Street
Los Angeles, CA 90012-2707
Ph:  (213) 680-5200

The chapel of Our Lady of Guadalupe is located at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in the city of Los Angeles, California.
It is the permanent home of a relic of San Juan Diego's tilma — on which the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe was miraculously imprinted in 1531.
The relic in Los Angeles is the only known piece of the tilma in the United States.

A 12 foot replica of the Tillma is of the original, centuries old image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, as it has been enshrined at the Basilica of Tepeyac in Mexico City. Three panels forming a triptych shrine face the main Plaza.
