He died a martyr’s death in Vitebsk, Russia, on 11/12/1623.
All of the sacred images of the church are illuminated by a myriad of tiny light bulbs. The church was originally built with both gas and electric which can be seen by observing the fixtures throughout the church At the turn of the century there was a great fascination with the electric light bulb which is clearly witnessed in St. Josaphat Church.

Saint Relics - Thibodeaux, Louisiana

Relics of Saint Valerie and St. Vitalis are housed at the St. Joseph Cathedral in Thibodeaux, Louisiana.
The Roman Catholic patron saints of Thibodaux are Saint Valérie, an early Christian martyr, and Saint Vitalis of Milan, her husband, also a martyr. A life-sized reliquary of Saint Valérie, containing an arm bone, was brought to Thibodaux in 1868 and is displayed in her shrine in St. Joseph Co-Cathedral in Thibodaux. A smaller reliquary, with a relic of St. Vitalis, is displayed near St. Valérie's reliquary. St. Valérie has traditionally been invoked for intercession in protecting Thibodaux from hurricanes.

St. Valerie, a virgin and martyr, was beheaded in the second century. Her arm was brought to a Louisiana cathedral in 1868, and has remained ever since.

Address:
721 Canal Boulevard
Thibodeaux, Louisiana

Christmas Season schedule:

Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki of Milwaukee, Bishop David L. Ricken of Green Bay, and Bishop William P. Callahan of LaCrosse encourage all the faithful to make a pilgrimage of faith "to pray, as did the Apostles: 'Lord increase our faith' (Lk 17:5)."

Holy Hill is located in southeast Wisconsin, on the highest elevation in that part of the state. Situated on 435 acres of rural countryside, it provides the visitor with the opportunity for spiritual enrichment. We often hear visitors remark about the peace, beauty and serenity they find at Holy Hill.
As early as 1903, Holy Hill was declared a Shrine of Mary, Help of Christians. In 2006, the Shrine was raised to the status of Minor Basilica. But as far back as the 1700s and perhaps earlier, the American Indians came to Holy Hill because they considered it a sacred place.
Many come to Holy Hill as "tourists", only to find that they have been touched by something deeper than natural beauty or curiosity. We know that God is truly present on this Holy Hill, and we invite you to come and share with us this Presence!

Annual May Celebration
May 17, 2015 | Outdoor Mass & Rosary Procession: 11 A.M.
This Shrine event was started around turn of 20th century by Abbot Bernard H. Pennings, O. Praem, of St. Norbert Abbey in De Pere, Wis. It was originally celebrated on last day of May as a special day of prayer to combat a heresy that was influencing local Belgian inhabitants. At that time, the last day in May was Feast of the Queenship of Mary and probably why Abbot Pennings picked that day for the celebration. Later, the event at the Shrine was switched to last Sunday in May and called Annual May Celebration. When Church calendar was revised, Queenship of Mary was moved to August 22, one week after Solemnity of the Assumption, to highlight connection of those 2 Marian celebrations. May 31 became Feast of the Visitation.

August 15, 2015 | Mass & Procession: 11 A.M.*
Outdoor Mass at 11 A.M. celebrated by Bishop David L. Ricken and followed by Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament and a rosary procession. This special celebration on Feast of the Assumption is a tradition at the Shrine that was started by Sister Adele after great fire of 1871. The current statue used in procession was given to Sister Adele by St. Joseph Parish in Champion when original statue was damaged.
