More than 250 relics of Catholic saints are being given away in Canada

More than 250 relics of Catholic saints are being given away in Canada:

https://aleteia.org/2018/04/09/more-than-250-relics-of-catholic-saints-are-being-given-away-in-canada

Over the past ten years, though, Debra Majer of the Catholic Diocese of London, Ontario has had a somewhat unusual job – finding homes for the more than 250 remains of saints that have been warehoused in her basement office.

Each relic is contained in the theca, a small metal vessel, and can be seen through a window. The vessels are sealed with wax which matches the seal of a cardinal on an accompanying documents. If a red thread that crosses the back of the relic is broken, that means that relic’s authenticity has been compromised.

Many Relics in Evansville, Indiana at Monastery of Saint Clare

Monastery Of St. Clare Home To Many Relics

http://www.themessageonline.org/special_features/article/id/17529

As a final installment in The Message’s special series on relics in the Diocese of Evansville, this article explores the immense collection of relics housed at the Monastery of St. Clare on Evansville’s west side.

Founded in 1884, the Monastery of St. Clare is the third monastery established by the Order of St. Clare in the United States. The monastery began collecting relics they received as gifts from bishops, who obtained them while on ad limina visits to Rome, and from benefactors.

Today, the monastery keeps relics in its archives, in the chapel sacristy and in a cabinet on the wall of the chapel. In the sacristy, first-class relics of the True Cross, St. Francis of Assisi (St. Clare’s mentor) and St. Clare stand in golden-colored reliquaries.

On special feast days, the sisters display the relics, accompanied by a vigil candle, on a table near the altar. The sisters pray a special benediction and are given the opportunity to venerate the relics with a touch or a kiss. Sister Jane Marie is glad that these 3 relics are not always on display in the chapel, allowing the sisters to remember their power and sanctity. “It’s like anything else – if they’re out there all the time, you forget they’re there,” she said. “We choose to bring them out on special feast days.”

The chapel is not lacking in relics, however: a cabinet on the chapel wall permanently houses a collection of 100 relics. Relics from a vast array of saints, including St. Anne, St. Cecilia, St. Catherine of Siena, many of the 12 Apostles and others, remain in the cabinet for veneration. Some of the relics are so old that their handwritten, Latin labels are no longer legible.

For Sister Jane Marie, the monastery’s collection of relics is a reminder that we are all called to sainthood, and that God can sanctify even the most unsaintly lives. She points to St. Francis, who lived a lewd, extravagant life before experiencing a powerful conversion. “Many people believe St. Francis was the most Christ-like person who lived,” she said. To venerate relics of St. Francis and other holy people, then, reminds us of our own call to conversion and sainthood. “They present someone who lived their life very close to God,” Sister Jane Marie said.

The sisters of the Monastery of St. Clare invite the public to visit the chapel, but they advise guests to call beforehand so as not to arrive during a private prayer period or retreat weekend.  The Monastery is located on Nurrenbern Road in Evansville. Contact the sisters at 812-425-4396.

North Little Rock & Little Rock, Arkansas Relics of Saints

Two Catholic churches in Arkansas have relics of saints for veneration:

Relics may be viewed at the Latin Masses at Saint Patrick's church in North Little Rock, Arkansas:

http://www.arkansas-catholic.org/news/article/4910/Relics-meant-to-inspire-devotion-to-God-through-the-saints

Article states:

...About 17 relics are continually displayed on either side of the altar at St. Patrick Church in North Little Rock. Father Michael Magiera, who owns most of the relics, which range from the evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke and John to St. Pius X, said in the extraordinary form of the Mass, the end of the offertory prayer makes reference to relics...“Very often in Latin Mass parishes, I have at least once or twice, a relic is openly venerated,” Father Magiera said. “It’s taken to the Communion rail and people kiss it.”

Our Lady of the Holy Souls in Little Rock has 6 relics, which include St. Frances Cabrini and the True Cross, displayed in an ambry as people walk in.

St. Maximilian Kolbe

In commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of St. Maximilian Kolbe his relics will be in Syracuse & available for veneration. Kolbe was a Franciscan Friar who was killed at Auschwitz by the Nazis, he sacrificed his life to take the place of a young father who had been selected for execution. This selfless act of love made him a martyr of charity. Ultimately Kolbe was killed by an injection of poison & for this reason he is also patron saint of people with addictions.

Through our commemoration of this martyrdom we also call to mind the millions of Jews who were killed. We will never forget the Holocaust of our elder brothers & sisters in the faith of Abraham & Sarah.

The event will include the opportunity to venerate the forearm relic of St. Jude, the largest relic of the saint and any Apostle outside of Rome as well as the relics of 7 other saints including St. Dominic, OP; St. Thomas Aquinas, O.P.; St Raymond of Penafort, O.P.; St. Martins DePorres, O.P.; St. Maria Goretti; St. John Vianney; and Pope St. Pius X.

The evening will conclude with a prayer service and an opportunity for all participants to receive a blessing with the St. Jude Oil.

The relic of St. Jude permanently resides at the Dominican Shrine of St. Jude in Chicago, Illinois and is featured on our list of pilgrimage sites by state.

Encased in a silver reliquary, the relic was presented to the shrine in 1949 for the 20th anniversary of the shrine’s dedication to St. Jude. It holds a place of honor and is on display for veneration by the public along with three smaller relics of the saint.

Make sure to call or check the website before you go to ensure that the relic will be available and isn’t traveling.

Relics of Saint Gerard Majella

One may request a third class relic of Saint Gerard Majella here:

http://papastronsay.blogspot.com/p/relics-of-st-gerard-majella.html

Relics are provided at no charge, but, if you are able, something to help cover the cost of postage is appreciated.

If you are or know of a mother in distress with her infant, either born or unborn, or who is struggling to conceive, do not despair.

Many thousands of mothers in the last two-and-a-half centuries have found timely aid and relief through the intercession of the Mother’s Saint — St Gerard Majella.

So many couples have been given the most precious gift of a child through his prayers.

In this age, when the sanctity of life is attacked on all fronts, it is a privilege for the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer to provide the relic of St Gerard for any mother who requests one, or for whom one is requested.

Each relic of linen touched to a First Class relic of the Saint is wrapped in gold cloth with a Miniature of Our Mother of Perpetual Succour and sewn into a ribbon belt in order to facilitate its being worn. Each relic-belt is hand made by a devoted soul.
