Actual Heart of Saint John Berchmans visiting Grand Coteau and Shreveport Louisiana

The Heart of Saint John Berchmans will be visiting Grand Coteau and Shreveport Louisiana!!

http://www.dailyworld.com/story/news/local/2016/11/05/relic-catholic-saint-coming-grand-coteau-shreveport/93292428

The heart of Catholic Saint John Berchmans is leaving Belgium for the first time to visit Grand Coteau and Shreveport for the 150th anniversary of the miracle Berchmans performed in Grand Coteau that led to him to become canonized by the Vatican.

The relic will be leaving Belgium on Dec. 7, 2016, to head to Shreveport. On Dec. 14, 2016, the relic will be in Grand Coteau all day available for viewing and veneration at Berchmans' shrine at Schools of the Sacred Heart.

"As a lifelong Catholic, it is a thrill to have a relic of that importance here, and in particular knowing our school was named after him and in his honor, we're just so excited to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the commemoration of the apparition and the miracle," said Yvonne Adler, Ph.D, head of Schools of the Sacred Heart.

The miracle at Grand Coteau on Dec. 14, 1866, involved a young woman who was studying at Sacred Heart to become a nun. She had been battling health problems and was on the brink of death when Berchmans allegedly appeared before Wilson and eased her suffering. The Vatican deemed the miracle authentic, and on Jan. 15, 1888, Berchmans was canonized as a saint by Pope Leo XIII.

Berchmans was the eldest of 5 children to a shoemaker in Belgium. While a teenager, Berchmans decided to enroll in a Jesuit college and began his spiritual education, and in 1616 became a Jesuit novitiate. After taking his vows into priesthood in 1618, he began to study philosophy and was selected to continue his studies in Rome. He died at 22 years old of the Roman Fever in 1622.

150th Anniversary of the Apparition and Miracle of St. John Berchmans

We invite you to celebrate a holy and monumental occasion, the 150th Anniversary of the Apparition and Miracle of St. John Berchmans. On December 7, 2016, the holy heart of St. John Berchmans will make its journey from Belgium to Shreveport, Louisiana. In the twelve days that follow, we will celebrate with pilgrims from all over the world the life of this pure and holy saint. To commemorate this event, join us December 8 – 18, 2016 for liturgies, guest speakers, opportunities for veneration,
exhibit of relics and memorabilia and much more!

North Little Rock & Little Rock, Arkansas Relics of Saints

Two Catholic churches in Arkansas have relics of saints for veneration:

Relics may be viewed at the Latin Masses at Saint Patrick's church in North Little Rock, Arkansas:

http://www.arkansas-catholic.org/news/article/4910/Relics-meant-to-inspire-devotion-to-God-through-the-saints

Article states:

...About 17 relics are continually displayed on either side of the altar at St. Patrick Church in North Little Rock. Father Michael Magiera, who owns most of the relics, which range from the evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke and John to St. Pius X, said in the extraordinary form of the Mass, the end of the offertory prayer makes reference to relics...“Very often in Latin Mass parishes, I have at least once or twice, a relic is openly venerated,” Father Magiera said. “It’s taken to the Communion rail and people kiss it.”

Our Lady of the Holy Souls in Little Rock has 6 relics, which include St. Frances Cabrini and the True Cross, displayed in an ambry as people walk in.

Relics of Mother Teresa of Calcutta - Washington, DC

Relics of Mother Teresa

http://franciscanmissionservice.org/2015/09/relics-of-mother-teresa-2

By Beth Brown

9/22/15

Our formation process with Franciscan Mission Service includes a half-day of service at one of Washington, DC’s many help centers. I said yes to serving at “A Gift of Hope,” a residence facility for elderly, sick, or disabled men and women who are experiencing homelessness.

This former mansion and orphanage, originally founded in 1986, is now run by the Missionaries of Charity, the order founded by Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

I'm not sure where these relics are located, but here are 2 places you can call.

Missionaries of Charity
3310 Wheeler Rd SE,
Washington, DC 20032
I want to share with you my impressions before starting my first day. I arrived a little early for Mass so I waited outside the chapel door, struck by what I was seeing in the entrance lobby. Lining one side of the hall are large cabinets displaying relics of this woman who labored on behalf of the poor for so many years.

There are many objects, like a small leather square from her sandals and a piece of the linen habit she wore. Another cabinet preserves a wheelchair used by Mother Teresa when she visited this residence. These are known as second-class relics, items used or touched by a saint.

After Mass, one of the volunteers pointed out a small glass cabinet on the chapel wall. As I approached it, I could see a tiny reliquary bearing a drop of her blood. I have had the privilege of seeing other first-class relics before, usually a piece of bone, but this tiny dot of red moved me.

I was deeply affected by seeing this actual drop – something that had coursed through her generous heart. Sealed in glass, the drop retained its red hue as if still within her...

St. Maximilian Kolbe

In commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of St. Maximilian Kolbe his relics will be in Syracuse & available for veneration. Kolbe was a Franciscan Friar who was killed at Auschwitz by the Nazis, he sacrificed his life to take the place of a young father who had been selected for execution. This selfless act of love made him a martyr of charity. Ultimately Kolbe was killed by an injection of poison & for this reason he is also patron saint of people with addictions.

Through our commemoration of this martyrdom we also call to mind the millions of Jews who were killed. We will never forget the Holocaust of our elder brothers & sisters in the faith of Abraham & Sarah.

DENVER, May 16, 2016 /Christian Newswire/ -- Eight rare Relics of the Passion, with a unique musical and meditative program focused on Passion of Christ, will be presented at 10 Catholic churches across greater Denver & Colorado Springs area.

The event, designed to connect participants to roots of their faith, is sponsored by churches where relics will be presented in collaboration with the Apostolate for Holy Relics (AHR), an organization founded 10 years ago in Los Angeles.

It's very rare to see a group of related holy relics all in one place as is presented in this program. Collections such as this are generally seen only in Rome or Holy Land & is something that most people only get to see once in a lifetime.

The documents for these relics have been reviewed & authenticated prior to commencement of first tour in 2007. Since then, they've been venerated in more than 12 archdioceses & 9 dioceses throughout world.

Because of the Holy Father's declaration of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, AHR is pleased to be presenting this extraordinary collection at area churches as part of a nationwide tour promoting God's Mercy.

The Relics of the Passion collection includes:

  • A piece of True Cross, which was discovered by St. Helena

  • A piece of Holy Table from room where Last Supper took place

  • A piece of Column of Flagellation

  • A piece of The Crown of Thorns

  • A replica of Holy Nail, fashioned using filings from true nails, making it a relic of a lesser class.

  • A relic from head of St. Longinus, centurion who pierced side of Christ

  • A picture of (effigy of) Veil of Veronica touched to original with a Vatican seal attesting toe fact.

  • A piece of exterior wrapping for Shroud of Turin
Schedule of events:

Presentations in Colorado begin in Denver on Sunday, May 22, continuing through Tuesday, May 31. The complete schedule of events for Catholic churches in Colorado can be found at

Strength of the Saints Relic Tour - Minnesota, Florida, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Phoenix, California, Washington, Maryland

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is sponsoring a tour of the relics of Saints John Fisher& Thomas More as part of its annual Fortnight for Freedom initiative to promote respect for religious liberty.

The relics will be venerated in Miami, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Minnesota, Denver, Phoenix, Los Angeles,& Washington.

The fortnight, whose 2016 theme is “Witnesses to Freedom,” begins on June 21& concludes on July 4.

Strength of the Saints Relic Tour

Join Catholics across Minnesota in venerating the relics of 2 saints who exemplified courage & conviction in the face of persecution. St. Thomas More & St. John Fisher were prominent 16th century Englishmen who stood against King Henry VIII’s attempted supremacy over the Catholic Church, & accepted martyrdom instead of abandoning their faith.

This fearless witness is especially compelling to American Catholics today, as we face threats to our religious liberty & rights of conscience. Come to learn more about the lives of these saints, ask for their prayers, & be inspired by their example.

The Strength of the Saints Relic Tour is being organized by the Minnesota Catholic Conference, & is part of the broader Fortnight for Freedom, a call to 14 days of prayer, education, & action for religious freedom in the United States & abroad.
