  The Shroud of Turin has long been venerated by the faithful & is believed by many to be the burial cloth of Jesus of Nazareth. The Shroud is one of the most scientifically studied religious icons in history. As science has progressed, so has the speculation on how the image of the crucified man of the Shroud was made.
  
  The exhibit presents the results of a comprehensive scientific, historical & forensic study with numerous photos & illustrations. The exhibit is the work of the Center for the Study of the Passion of Christ & the Holy Shroud & Monsignor Giulio Ricci & other scientists, who spent more than 25 years researching the Holy Shroud.
   
  The centerpiece of the exhibit is a full-length replica of the Shroud developed from a photographic image of the Shroud made by the Eastman Kodak Co. The replica shows the front & back of the shroud.  In addition, the mobile exhibit contains a large crucified corpus showing the wounds of Christ corresponding to the passion narrative in the Gospel accounts & the wounds shown on the Shroud. The exhibit contains 92 panels detailing the history & science of the Shroud.

DENVER, May 16, 2016 /Christian Newswire/ -- Eight rare Relics of the Passion, with a unique musical and meditative program focused on Passion of Christ, will be presented at 10 Catholic churches across greater Denver & Colorado Springs area. 

The event, designed to connect participants to roots of their faith, is sponsored by churches where relics will be presented in collaboration with the Apostolate for Holy Relics (AHR), an organization founded 10 years ago in Los Angeles.

The church hosts 2 Shroud Encounter showings. The first, at 4 p.m. on March 12, will be followed by a reception and a small meal. The second, at 1 p.m. on March 13 will be preceded by an 11:30 a.m. lunch. Tickets, $20 for adults and $10 for children younger than 18, are limited. The Rev. Rob Willmann calls the Shroud of Turin "an incredible mystery."
But he is a believer.
Willmann, rector of St. James Episcopal Church in Zanesville, is among Christians who say the 14-foot linen piece likely is the shroud that covered Jesus' body before he was laid in a tomb more than 2,000 years ago.
"I really believe it's authentic, and that's inspiring," Willmann said. "We are all human creatures that look for proof of the existence of God, but God remains elusive. ... The shroud is one of those things that really makes us look hard."

Willmann's congregation will host a Shroud Encounter presentation this month to welcome the central Ohio community to the parish as it celebrates its 200th anniversary. "CSI Jerusalem: The Case of the Missing Body" offers 200 images in a big-screen presentation along with a life-size canvas replica of the shroud.
Presenter Russ Breault of Georgia leaves it up to each individual to determine what they believe.
"The question comes down to potential: This is either the most important artifact on the planet or it is the most ingenious fraud ever perpetrated," he said.


Breault has studied the shroud for more than 30 years and has viewed it three times in Turin, Italy, where it is housed. He said his mission is simple: To advance the knowledge of the shroud to new generations.
"Everyone knows about the pyramids. Everyone knows about Stonehenge. Yet, one of the most mysterious (icons) in the world is this linen cloth ... and there are millions of people who have never even heard of it," he said.
Though people in central Ohio might not be able to visit Turin, Willmann said he hopes the Shroud Encounter helps increase their faith.
"All the things that touch us are important, even the bad things, toward helping our faith," he said. "But the shroud is an incredibly good thing that enlightens us and reminds us that Jesus is real to us."
The shroud, owned by the Vatican, has undergone countless tests and has its share of believers and naysayers.
It bears an inexplicable image of a 5-foot-10 man with injuries consistent with Gospel accounts of Jesus' torture and execution — including puncture marks around the head and more than 120 scourge marks. It is stained with type AB blood from a male.
Such relics — items believed to be linked to holy people — are revered in the Catholic Church as well as associated denominations, Willmann said.
But he stressed that Christians of all backgrounds could benefit from learning about the shroud.
"People more and more are looking for a church that feeds their hearts and souls," he said. "They go to the church to seek and find Jesus; therefore, a relic of peace that has an imposition of Jesus upon it would be of interest to any Christian."

Who Is The Man Of The Shroud? Permanent Exhibit

On Saturday, February 27, 2010, a permanent exhibit titled Who is the Man of the Shroud? opened at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Sacramento, California. Founded by the Legionaries of Christ, this is the third permanent Shroud exhibit the order has established. The first, the Pontifical Institute Notre Dame of Jerusalem Center, was opened in Jerusalem in 2006 (which I have reported on previously) and the second at the University of Rome. Plans are to continue to open similar exhibits in other countries around the world. Each exhibit includes a lifesize replica of the Shroud, 2 lifesize holographic images by Petrus Soons showing the 3 dimensional characteristics of the Shroud image, replicas of the instruments of the crucifixion and a beautiful, lifesize bronze sculpture of the man of the Shroud by Luigi Mattei.

This center was founded in 2009 in Alamagordo, New Mexico, by noted Shroud scholar Pete Schumacher, a name very well known to most Shroud researchers as the expert on the VP-8 Image Analyzer. The Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament of Our Lady of the Angels Monastery has recently acquired a permanent exhibit of full-size images of the Shroud of Turin. The images are located in the anteroom of the Shrine's Lower Church.

The images were taken from the high-resolution specialty photographs of Barrie M. Schwortz, documentary photographer for the Shroud of Turin Research Project. On display are 2 color positives and 2 black and white negatives of the Shroud, each 8 ft high and 4 ft wide. To facilitate viewing, the Shroud images at the Shrine are displayed so that the image of the crucified man can be seen standing upright.

The Shrine is open daily to the public from 6AM to 6PM. The Daily Conventual Mass of the Nuns is at 7:00AM with Priests available to hear Confession after Mass. The Nuns chant the Liturgy of the Hours at 6AM, 11:30AM, and 5PM. Pilgrimages are available for groups of 10 or more and individuals are welcome to join in (205) 271-2986 or (256) 352-6267.

A non denominational display of historical artifacts depicting the Shroud of Turin through literature, art, and theology.   The Shroud of Turin remains one of the most curious of all religious artifacts.  It features the faint image of a man many believe to be the body of the crucified Jesus Christ.   It is the Gospel accounts of the Passion, Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ — illustrated through the Image of the Shroud.  The Shroud is the single-most studied artifact in the history of humanity.

A vast  collection of devotional art depicting the Shroud during its rare public exhibitions.  The display will present statues, oil paintings, engravings, embroideries, photos, medallions, medals, coins and stamps, etc. The range of this collection is from the earliest known engraving of the Shroud, dated 1578, through the ages to the present.  This collection is one of the three largest in the world, and compares to the official museum in Turin Italy and the traveling collection of the last king of Italy in Switzerland. 

 

The Library collection consists of more than 1000 titles of books, periodicals, journals, documents, etc.  The range from the earliest known book on the Shroud, dated 1581, through the ages to the present.

 

The Museum will house relics of the Shroud, among the most rare in the Catholic tradition.  They will be exhibited in a prayer and meditation chapel with relics of Catholic Saints who had great devotion to the Shroud.

 

This project is located in a unique compound of two buildings on seven acres of manicured lawns and treed land.  The main building was once the movie studio of Mark Honeywell.  It has been repurposed several times; following its life as a studio, it became a country club on the Honeywell golf course.  Most recently it was an up-scale restaurant.  It is an ideal setting for the Museum.  It is best described as a Norman Tudor style of architecture.  The four story structure is built of stucco and Indiana limestone.  The interior features a grand room with vaulted oak beamed ceiling, and leaded glass windows.  A perfect location for the main gallery.

The second gallery space is a curved windowed space over-looking a vast lawn with many trees and a bridged canal.  There are several other smaller gallery spaces. Restoration of the interior is nearly complete.  The heating system, as well as the electrical and plumbing systems have all been brought up to code.  Painting is complete and flooring has been refreshed. 

The exterior of the building remains in need of restoration.  Many roofing shingles must be replaced. The stucco needs to be repaired and painted.  Much of the Tudor woodwork must be replaced.  The leaded windows are in need of re-puttying.  We are in the process of fundraising and grant writing.

The second building is a large one story building that was once the pool house of the filled-in swimming pool of the old country club.  It will be re-purposed for future expansion.   

 

The City of Wabash has that wonderful small town feel.  There are many architecturally significant buildings in the downtown area.  Wabash is well on the way to becoming a major tourist attraction in the area.  The Ford Theater in the Honeywell Center is a state of the art, 1500 seat modern concert venue that attracts major music performances.  There is a  restored 1920s movie palace.  The pulse of the downtown area is the Charlie Creek Inn, a fully restored  hotel with an exceptional restaurant and lounge.  Wabash is becoming an art center with several important art galleries.  It is also the home of the Wabash county museum, the Ford Medical Museum and other tourist attractions.  It is expected that The Museum of the Holy Shroud will become an additional focal point for guests to this historic city.
